Just Horsemanship, Loes Engelkes training Arabian horse
A happy and healthy horse - to me - is the best thing in the world. Which means a hollistic approach. Based on natural behaviour. And the best way to do that, is to bring a lot of positive energy. If you’re happy, then your horse can be too. And the other way around of course. Knowledge, trust and experience are key. That’s why I work together with other specialists. We learn and grow together to give our horses the best care and training. And I teach others to do the same.
Just Horsemanship is just that.

Just Horsemanship specializes in training horses violence free and based on their natural behaviour. We offer training livery for starting (young) horses and horses with any behavioral or riding issues.
We can also work with you and your horse to solve any challenging behavior. And organize a variety of clinics, courses and give 1-2-1 lessons on horsemanship.

Our mission

Our mission is to set horses up for succes. Both in training as well as for the rest of their life. We want to make sure we are creating horses who love their work and feel confident in themselves. We want them not only to do what we would like them to do, but to also enjoy it. To accomplish this we give them as much experience, trust and variety in training as possible. We also believe that a big part of setting your horse up for success, is looking at the horse holistically. A horse that is happy and healthy in life, will be more likely to succeed in training. So, we have a team of professionals to help us make sure the horse is feeling good and loving life.

Our goal is to be a safe place for horses (and people) to learn and grow. We want to create an environment where they can enjoy the work and feel proud of themselves. To accomplish that, we adjust every training session to the horse (and owner) we have in the moment. We believe the best results are achieved over a consistent, balanced training where we lay a proper foundation. And really confirm each step before moving on to the next, while making sure we crack on when the horse is ready.

We practice this at the yard in Canons Ashby (Daventry, Northamptonshire), as well as during sessions at location. Such as lessons in groundwork with your horse, lessons on how to solve difficult behavior or long lining.

All of our training is completely violence free and based on the natural behavior of the horse. Loes is a qualified instructor Horse and Behaviour from the Dutch studies e-quine.com. And has over 3 years of experience in training horses in the UK. Through the years she has trained all sorts of horses from many different backgrounds. She has developed a broad set of skills and ways to train different horses with different personalities and works in a calm, consistent manner.

Knowledge is power, especially when working with horses. So, together with other professionals from the horse industry, we organize lots of different equestrian courses and clinics. We cover a variety of different subjects, from massage to osteopathy to bit fitting. We also give 1-2-1 lessons on our training methods either at your location or at our yard.

We believe that training horses should be based on mutual respect. We believe in training horses by finding new ways to explain what we want, not by asking the same question louder. We believe in training horses in the absence of violence. We believe training horses should be fun, so they can enjoy themselves too.

Emily Giles

Highly recommend Just Horsemanship and Loes, she had my horse for 3 weeks to back and she did an absolute fantastic job, he is now a little superstar.
Loes is so goo d with horses, knows exactly how to work with them, and she really takes the time to bond with them too. My little man loves her, every time he sees her, his ears prick forward. She is such a lovely person too, couldn't do enough fro me and my boy, so experienced and knowledgeable, I would 100% recommend.
